ATIA wishes to build its service and importance to the general community by establishing relationships with organizations that serve those who use, procure, develop, and otherwise benefit from assistive technology.

Partner organizations can include: Government, Business, Consumer Advocacy, Education and professionals, International Business, and other Not-for-Profit Organizations

Board Roles & Responsibilities

The role of an ATIA Board Member is to take a leadership position as a member of the ATIA organization and focus on key issues and initiatives within the AT industry. The role is ideal for passionate advocacy and raising awareness on the value of assistive technology.

A Board Member may volunteer or be elected to fill a specific role within the Board, depending on experience and inclination. A Board Member may select sub-committees to work with that focus on specific interests.

ATIA Board Members are required to attend Board meetings and to attend the annual ATIA conference.

  • Board Members will be required to attend all Board Meetings (This includes 1 day at the ATIA Orlando Conference, a full-day meeting with changing locations – potentially international) in May or June. Each full-day meeting is typically proceeded by an evening dinner the day prior to our board meeting.
  • Each newly elected board member is required to attend a board orientation at a mutually convenient time as a virtual meeting with the CEO and other board members.
  • Board members will be required to meet on occasion by virtual meeting to review progress on goals and vote on critical matters.
  • Board Members must be aware of the published goals and objectives of the organization and be able to represent them to other ATIA members and the public.
  • Board Members must be involved with one of the strategic programs of the organization and must be actively concerned with moving the program forward.
  • Board Members must conduct all ATIA business by putting the interests of the organization uppermost. Board Members must not use their position to gain advantage for their own organization.
  • Board Members must behave responsibly and respectfully to other ATIA members.
  • Board members must work to promote ATIA to their business contacts and assist in growing our organization.

Time requirements:

  • Two full-day Board Meetings at ATIA Orlando and other date (TBD)
  • Annual onsite meeting may be held for planning/strategy meeting
  • Attend and present (as appropriate) at Membership Meetings
  • Prepare presentations for meetings
  • One hour sub-committee meetings per month
  • Quarterly conference call Board Meetings

Application Process

The Nomination Committee, comprised of current and former board members, manages the following process:

  • The Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA) welcomes applications for Board of Director positions at any time during the calendar year.
  • All applicants must be full-time employees or owners of a regular member company in good standing.
  • Nominations for the ATIA Board must be made by full voting members (Regular and Small Company membership levels).
  • In November the committee will review all applications received during the year and select candidates to interview.
  • Once approved by the full Board, the slate of candidates will be presented for ratification by the membership at the next annual Member Meeting.
  • Board terms last three years, unless appointed to fill an unexpired term*.

*If there are vacant positions available during the year, the Board may appoint an applicant directly, outside of the annual nomination process.

  • Candidates are required to submit an application using the form below.
  • Applications must be submitted by January 5, 2026.
  • All candidates must be interviewed by the ATIA Nominating Committee.
