CALL FOR PAPERS Assistive Technology Outcomes and Benefits

Volume 12 ‘Focused Issue on: Implementing AT in Practice: New Technologies and Techniques’

Submission deadline: April 30, 2017

The journal Assistive Technology Outcomes and Benefits (ATOB), published since 2004 by the Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA), invites papers for the upcoming issue focused on “Implementing Assistive Technology in Practice: New Technologies and Techniques.” A great deal of ongoing research is exploring how assistive technology is being used in practice, and how well it is working in various contexts. This issue of ATOB invites authors to share their research and practice experience, including information about new products and interventions, or new and unique strategies for implementing assistive technology in practice.

New technologies hold promise for beneficial outcomes and advancements in the quality of life of people with disabilities. However, technology alone does not ensure positive outcomes. How individuals use and apply technology to living and learning often becomes a personal journey. As technology advances at an ever-increasing rate, new possibilities continue to emerge for people with disabilities. Similarly, tools are appearing that broaden and expand the capabilities of practitioners, as well as the impact of services offered by institutions. These technologies are being applied to the issues and challenges facing individuals with disabilities in innovative and powerful new ways.

This focused issue of ATOB desires to take a close look at how new technologies are implemented: the strategies, the techniques, the therapies, and related services that are associated with the introduction of these new technologies. Articles should highlight the outcomes, benefits, and challenges of the combination of the new technologies and the techniques for their implementation, as well as promising implications of these developments for individuals, practitioners, and the institutions involved.
