Overview

A smartphone is only as smart as the apps on it. This webinar demonstrates six Android apps that support productivity in producing, searching, reading and conveying digital information. Attendees will be introduced (through video screen captures) to app features that meet practical needs. Whether it is an able-bodied person, someone with a visual impairment, or a single switch user like myself, productivity is the name of the game!

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will have the knowledge to create, manage and synchronize their own personal digital library using Calibre Library and Calibre Companion;
  2. Participants will be able to save and retrieve information using Simple Notepad and Textra Pro;
  3. Participants will have a strategy for efficient use of abbreviation expansion using Texpand Pro;
  4. Participants will be able to identify three automated tasks that can be accomplished using Tasker;

Darren Gabbert has a BS in Computer Science and is a Sr. Business Operations Associate for the University of Missouri-Columbia’s Adaptive Computing Technology Center. He has been responsible for the direction and strategic planning of assistive technology services on the MU campus for 28 years. Mr. Gabbert currently conducts research in robotic assistive technologies for persons with disabilities. He has served as co-PI on projects funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, National Science Foundation, and the National Institute of Health. He also has an advanced form of spinal muscular atrophy and has successfully used single-switch scanning for 12 years.
