This presentation will discuss strategies and applications with handheld technology to impact anxiety and stress management. Several case studies will be presented; consumers who experienced a reduction in anxiety that enabled them to enter or remain in the workforce will be highlighted. Apps, “tech support” for habit formation, and motivational interviewing techniques to effect behavior change will be demonstrated. Participants will learn strategies to implement with a variety of populations, including people with anxiety or other mental health issues, autism, ADHD, TBI, and with ages ranging from high school students to older adults.

Carrie Clawson is the Assistive Technology Specialist for the Virginia Division of Rehabilitative Services, serving the northern region of Virginia. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University, and has over 20 years experience as an occupational therapist, focusing on assistive technology for much of her career. She has been with DARS for six years. She developed and initiated the handheld technology program with individuals with memory and anxiety challenges, which is now being used in all regions of the state through DARS. Carrie first presented at ATIA in 2014 on the application of handheld technology for employment, and also presented in 2015 and 2016.
