In today’s ever-changing classrooms, teachers are now required to differentiate content instruction in the classroom for ALL their students to be successful.  This session will cover a wide variety of solutions promoting student independence.  Focus will be on providing alternatives for students who are struggling with difficulties in reading, writing, brainstorming, organization, and more, as well as implementation strategies that I use to disseminate information to various disciplines. We will explore free websites, free Google extensions and Apps, a paid Google extension, a free iOS app for the iPhone and the iPad as well as implementation methods that include YouTube, Google Drive, and Microsoft 365.

  1. Describe five writing support strategies for students with disabilities
  2. Identify five strategies for students who read at varying reading levels.
  3. Identify two Assistive Technology implementation strategies.

Charlotte Maria Jordan, OTR
Charlotte Jordan attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy with highest honors. She went on to work at TIRR (The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research) while pursuing a Masters of Arts at Texas Woman’s University in Occupational Therapy/Rehabilitation Engineering Technology with highest honors. For the last twenty-eight years, she has been assigned to the Assistive Technology Team in Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, which is the third largest School District in Texas, working with students from the age of three years old to twenty-one years of age. Charlotte has presented to staff in the school district in both an individual and district wide capacity on numerous occasions addressing various subjects that are pertinent in the district that she serves. She has also maintains Microsoft and Google groups within the district to provide documents and trainings for the staff in Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. Charlotte has presented at workshops at Harris County Department of Education in regards to Occupational Therapy. She has also presented at ATIA. She has attended numerous workshops and courses in assistive technology.
