Have you ever wanted your students to be more engaged in instruction and in the classroom community, but weren’t sure how to do that? This session will focus on three ways to motivate reluctant learners through an interactive delivery model:
1. Build a classroom community that is safe and allows multiple opportunities for sharing and communication.
2. Incorporate balanced inquiry into instruction, scaffolding what students understand, and incorporating what they already know.
3. Use a predictable instructional routine so students can focus on learning the concepts rather than navigating the activity. Then, allow time for reflection so students can focus on developing knowledge rather than on the tools that allow them to demonstrate it.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to list three reasons why some students demonstrate reluctance to learn.
  2. Participants will be able to describe three strategies that encourage student engagement and communication in the classroom.
  3. Participants will be able to identify two ways to use resources that were shared in the session to enhance student motivation and communication in the classroom.
