Typical language development for young children is a result of active and repetitive interaction during meaningful and motivating experiences. However, direct intervention is often required for many individuals with significant communication delays, as they may be at risk in all facets of development. This session will focus on Snap Scene, an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) solution designed specifically for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and older individuals who may be at the emerging level of communication.  The purpose of Snap Scene is to build communication, language, and literacy skills by introducing AAC in every day social and play interactions.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss key intervention and support needs for emergent learners with developmental disabilities.
  2. Describe how AAC can support literacy and language learning for students at an emerging level of development.
  3. List 3 strategies used in Snap Scene software to support in-the-moment communication for early learners.
