The iPad is a a multi tool that is low cost and user friendly. With its accessibility features, accessories, various applications (apps) and the ability to adapt, it can serve various purposes for the student who has complex needs. This presentation will provide information on using the iPad with various students who have visual and complex needs. Examples will be provided included using audio scanning, tactile symbol overlays, single and multi-messaging, use of routines, and emerging/early literacy skills. Important new accessibility features in IOS 9 for students with multiple disabilities will be presented, along with various applications, important accessories, and tactile adaptations.
- Participants will identify three ways in which the iPad can be used for augmentative alternative communication for students with visual and complex needs.
- Participants wil identify three applications that can be used to facilitate in the instruction of routines for students with complex needs.
- Participants will identify three applications including adaptations that can be used for emergent/early literacy skills for students with complex needs.
