Overview

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is the use of any aided and unaided means of communication for those unable to meet communicative needs solely through natural speech. We will discuss and share tried and true implementation strategies for the use of AAC in the classroom, community and home setting. Attendees will leave the training with strategies and access to a “go-to” resource list of implementation activities.

  1. Participants will be able to describe evidence based AAC implementation strategies
  2. Participants will be able to share resources for creating and implementing AAC strategies and activities.
  3. Participants will be able to compare and contrast strategies and how they are applied in different environments.

Nerissa offers assessment, intervention and consultation services, and teaches AAC and AT courses at Western Massachusetts colleges. She is also the Associate Editor of SIG 18's Perspectives
